Honora M. Gathings

Honora McKeown Gathings is a founding partner in Gathings Law. She hails from St. Petersburg, Florida, where she continued on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Florida State University in 1975. She is a 1978 graduate of Cumberland School of Law, Samford University, in Birmingham, Alabama. While in law school, Mrs. Gathings served on the Moot Court Board from 1976-1978 and was also Associate Editor of The American Journal of Trial Advocacy.

Mrs. Gathings has been involved in complex litigation, including business tort litigation, toxic, environmental, and pharmaceutical tort litigation, serious personal injury, consumer class actions, products liability, fraud, and international law. She is a member of the Alabama Bar Association, the Florida Bar Association and the Birmingham Bar Association. She is also a member of the American Association for Justice, where she is a member of the business tort section, the international practice section and the toxic, environmental, and pharmaceutical tort section. Mrs. Gathings has been admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, various United States District Courts in Alabama, Florida and Mississippi, as well as both the Alabama and Florida Supreme Courts.

Mrs. Gathings is a member of the Cumberland School of Law Advisory Board. She has been a board member of The American Journal of Trial Advocacy Foundation. In addition, she plays an important role in mentor programs for Cumberland School of Law. She has been a mentor for freshman law students, Women in Law and The American Journal of Trial Advocacy. Mrs. Gathings shares her experiences to help educate and influence young women law students in Alabama. She also speaks on occasion for the Alabama State Bar and serves as a member of the Women’s Section of the Birmingham Bar on the Executive Board. SHe has also been an active member of the Birmingham Bar Association through her participation on various committees including Grievance, Continuing Education and Public Service.

Mrs. Gathings serves on the board of Zonta in Birmingham, Alabama. Zonta is an international organization committed to advancing the status of women through service and advocacy both locally and internationally. The Birmingham Chapter has been active in providing assistance to the YWCA, First Light and supporting the passage of legislation to stop the trafficing of women and children.

Mrs. Gathings has been voted AV Peer Review Rated, reaching the height of professional excellence. Having practiced law for many years, she is recognized through this rating for the highest levels of skill and integrity. She is listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Women Lawyers. She has been voted by her peers as an Alabama Super Lawyer, Top Attorneys in Alabama, Top Attorneys, Birmingham Magazine, and has been honored for her work through Stathmore’s Who’s Who since 2001, as well as through Madison’s Who’s Who.

Through the years, Mrs. Gathings has been involved in church, civic, and community activities in her spare time. She has been married to Lloyd W. Gathings for over 33 years. They have two daughters, Honora and Margot, and a son in law, Jon, of whom they are very proud.
